Finally! A new Lost!

It wouldn’t be my blog if I didn’t talk about Lost, so here’s my recap of the season 4 premiere episode. Not bad at all.

In a flash forward we learn that apparently 6 of the survivors leave the island. Due to an unfortunate encounter with a spoiler I was already aware of the Oceanic 6. We knew Jack and Kate left the island from last season’s finale and now we know that Hurley left the island as well. The island didn’t seem to leave him though as he gets a surprise visit from “I’m dead, but I’m also here” Charlie. Ya see, Hurley was in a convenience store to buy some jerky and a Slushy when Charlie appeared to him in front of the Ho-hos. Hurley freaks out and knocks over a display and this somehow leads to a major car chase that ends in Hurley’s arrest. While in custody, Hurley sees a vision of Dead Charlie swimming in the interrogation room two-way and after another freak out happily accepts an invitation back to Santa Rosa where he is visited by Mr. Matthew Abaddon. (Abaddon can mean destruction or an underworld abode of lost souls- neat!). Mr. Abaddon asks Hurley “are they still alive?”. Very mysterious indeed. They? Who might they be? We don’t know yet. We do know that ‘they’ need Hurley to go back to the island because Charlie shows up again, looking very cute for a corpse, and tells Hurley that they need him. Hurley doesn’t want to hear it and wishes him away.

A slightly too thin Jack shows up at the asylum to visit Hurley after seeing the car chase on tv while making an early morning screw driver. I like a bloody mary myself but oranges seemed to be used a lot in this show so I guess they want to stick with the theme or maybe Jack is just out of celery. So he visits Hurley and they start to play HORSE but Jack evidently sucks at basketball and quickly gets and H and and O. Ho? Remember the Ho-hos? There’s a lot of hos in this show! H and O happen to be the 8th and 15th letters of the alphabet so they could be just part of the numbers it possibly mean the chemical symbol for Holmium as has been theorized. Anyway, Jack is really there to find out if Hurley has told anyone ‘the big secret’. This secret has to do with the lie they are living under since returning to society. The world was told that flight 815 crashed (intact) in a deep ocean trench and all survivors died. Somehow these 6 were rescued (for lack of a better word at this point) and are living as celebrities and heroes but the story of the island doesn’t seem to have come out. They are lying about it for some reason known only to themselves and the creators of the show. Hurley believes they have made a huge mistake and his guilt is starting to get the best of him wants to go back but Jack isn’t buying it…yet. We know he’ll change his vodka tinged mind soon enough. Never say never Jack!

Island time was rather interesting. Hurley found out Charlie was dead and that was very sad, especially since he just did a joy filled cannonball into the ocean. Nothing will ruin the joy of a good cannonball faster than finding out your only really buddy on the uncharted island of mystery died while turning off the jamming device in the underwater station because a gorgeous, prescient Scotsman told him he was going to. Man I hate that! While heading back with the beach group to warn Jack that the freighter people aren’t who they say they are, Hurley gets separated from the rest of the group and ends up at Jacob’s wacky shack where he sees Jack’s dead father and gets a close up of Jacob’s eyeball. Guess what happens next? Yep, Hurley freaks out! He runs screaming from the shack only to have it reappear in front of him again. Still freaking, he closes his eyes and manages to wish the shack away only to open his eyes and have Locke looming over him.
Now, earlier in the episode we found out that Kate tried to follow Locke after he killed Naomi, but could not find any sign of him, he had just disappeared. Now we know Kate is omnipotent and can just do anything she sets her pretty mind to, including tracking a man through the jungle. The fact that she couldn’t find any sign of him though she managed to find both of Naomi’s tracks (yes, even though Naomi was bleeding from the knife wound) leads me to wonder what’s up with Mr. Locke. Why didn’t he leave any tracks? Why did he show up right after Hurley wished away Jacob’s wacky shack? Why isn’t he suffering any affects of the bullet hole in his side from when Ben shot him only hours before? Answer me!

The camp divides into two groups but not before Jack attempts to shoot Locke in the head with his own gun. Aw, that was harsh! Jack sucker punches Locke and while Locke’s down Jack grabs the gun and aims at Locke’s head. As Locke is in the middle of saying “You’re not going to shoot me Jack”, Jack shoots! Uh oh, no more buwwets! Jack’s mad.

Hurley tells Jack and Locke that he’s not listening to either of them, he’s listening to Charlie and going to the barracks with Locke. Ben wants to go to so Danielle grabs his leash and they side with Locke’s group. Rose doesn’t want to go with ‘that man’ Locke, she wants to go with trigger happy Jack. Sun is happy because she thinks she’s going to have her baby in the hospital so she goes with Jack and Claire is sad because Charlie is dead and she’ll never be able to ‘treat him real good’ like Rose told her to but she too goes with Jack. How will she ever find out that he’s her half brother if she doesn’t?
Oh yeah, Sawyer left Kate to go with Locke and she gets mad. (yawn) Hopefully the two groups are more clearly spelled out next episode because there are a few people who’s loyalty hasn’t been determined yet.

My questions after this episode are:
What’s up with Locke not leaving a trail and just showing up out of thin air? With this the question, did Hurley really get separated from the group or was he intentionally brought to Jacob’s shack?
Why are they lying about the crash and not telling anyone about the island?
What does Matthew “Demon of Destruction” Abaddon want with the infamous ‘they’?
Why was Jack’s dead dad in Jacob’s shack?
Why would Hurley apologize to Jack about taking Locke’s side but then say they made a mistake? It’s been set up that Jack is making a mistake in contacting the freighter folks, but why is Hurley sorry for going with Locke?

Well, there’s my little recap. It’s my first so be gentle. If you don’t understand it and have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re probably not watching the show and I don’t know what to tell you. If you are watching the show and still have no idea what I’m talking about, I still don’t know what to tell you.
